$99 New Patient Exam in Chattanooga, TN.

Comprehensive New Patient Exams are the best way to find out all issues that need to be fixed at once, and sometimes get the cleaning done the same day.  At your appointment at our location in East Brainerd, we will examine all aspects of your oral health, come up with a plan to fix any issues, and do a cleaning if there is time left.  Most of these appointments are scheduled for 90 minutes.  We also have a Membership Plan that allows for 2 free cleanings and exams each year, along with significant price reductions for those without insurance.  Click Here to find out more about our membership plan!

The Process

Please arrive 15 minutes early if this is your first visit with us.  We will greet you, and have you fill out any paperwork that you haven't gotten around to.  You will be taken back by our hygienist.  Your medical history will be reviewed, and we will see what brings you in.  Based on that, we will get appropriate x-rays.  Those are usually what are called 4-Bitewings and a Panoramic, or we will do a Full Mouth Series of x-rays.

Once your initial assessment and x-rays are done, Dr. Wilkinson will come in and do his exam.  We will treatment plan any necessary issues and diagnose the proper cleaning for you.  For most people this is a regular cleaning, otherwise referred to as a prophy.  For people that have more extensive build-up, plaque, or periodontal issues, additional treatment will be needed first.

If you just need a regular cleaning, we will most likely be able to do it at the first appointment.  If there is more extensive cleaning that needs to be done due to plaque or periodontal disease, we will likely need to reschedule so we can have enough time to properly clean your teeth and gums.

After your cleaning we will schedule a recall hygiene appointment.  This is typically 6 months out, but times vary per person.  If you have other treatment that needs to be done, that can be scheduled at this time as well.

FAQ

During your first visit, you can expect:

  1. Medical History Review: We'll ask about your health history, any medications you're taking, and any dental concerns you have.
  2. Oral Examination: We'll check for cavities, examine your gum health, and assess any previous dental work.
  3. Oral Cancer Screening: We inspect your mouth for signs of oral cancer, which is a standard part of all comprehensive exams.
  4. X-rays: If necessary, we will take dental X-rays to detect issues that are not visible during the oral exam.
  5. Dental Cleaning: Unless there are contraindications, a professional cleaning will be performed to remove plaque and tartar buildup.
  6. Treatment Plan: Based on the examination findings, we'll discuss a personalized treatment plan.

Please fill out all your paperwork before you arrive.  This is especially true if you have insurance because of long call times to confirm insurance.  Please bring a list of all medications you are currently taking, any dental insurance information, and any previous dental records if available. It’s also helpful to come with any questions or concerns you may have about your oral health.

The initial comprehensive exam typically takes about 90 minutes in total. This allows us enough time to perform a thorough evaluation and discuss any findings and recommendations with you.  If everything is fairly straightforward, in regards to a regular cleaning, we will likely do your cleaning as well in that 90 minute time period.

No, the exam itself is painless. Some patients might find the process of cleaning slightly uncomfortable, especially if there's significant tartar buildup or sensitive gums, but we strive to make the experience as comfortable as possible.
