  • Smile with Confidence

The Process

On the day of preparation we will get you numb, and prepare the teeth for veneers.  We will then take a digital scan and make veneer temporaries for you to wear.  The temporaries are a critical part of the process to make sure you are happy with the shape and look of the new teeth.  You will be in the temporaries for 2-3 weeks.

Your crown or bridge will be designed on a 3D computer program.  This design will be milled out of a block or puck.  The milled veneer will be crystalized in our oven, and then a glaze with color will be placed and baked onto the tooth.  The veneer will then be cleaned and made ready for cementation.

For most veneer cases, unlike crown cases, we will have to get you numb to remove the temporaries.  We will numb, remove the temps, and try in the new veneers.  You will be able to see what the new veneers will look like.  If you are happy with them, we will bond the veneers into place.

Post-op care will be gone over with you.  For recently seated veneers we ask that you not floss for 24 hours.  After that the veneers can be treated normally, namely brushing twice a day and flossing once. We will also set you up with your next hygiene appointment so you can have your teeth cleaned, if you do not have this appointment scheduled.

FAQ

Dental veneers typically last between 7 to 15 years. After this time, the veneers would likely need to be replaced. The longevity of veneers depends on how well they are cared for, with good oral hygiene and avoidance of hard foods that can cause damage.  That said, Dr. Wilkinson personally had a set that lasted 25 years, so brushing and flossing does help  😉

The process of getting veneers involves minimal discomfort. The preparation of your teeth for veneers may involve the removal of a small amount of enamel and is usually done under local anesthesia to minimize any pain.  We do offer conscious sedation or laughing gas/nitrous oxide if you would like at our office in East Brainerd.

The cost of dental veneers varies depending on factors such as the number of veneers and the material chosen. Prices can range from $800 to $2,000 per tooth depending on insurance and other needs of the tooth.  The best thing to do is to set up a consultation in Chattanooga, TN with us to discuss your specific case .

No, veneers cannot be whitened after they are applied. If you desire a lighter color, this should be decided before the veneers are crafted. It is important to maintain them with regular cleaning to prevent stains.

Ideal candidates for dental veneers are individuals with healthy teeth who wish to improve the aesthetic appearance of their smile. Veneers are great for correcting issues like stains, chips, gaps, or uneven teeth. However, they may not be suitable for patients with conditions such as severe dental decay, gum disease, or those who heavily clench or grind their teeth.  Crowns can be done in those cases though to restore your smile 🙂

Dr. Wilkinson uses Lithium Disilicate, or porcelain for the veneers done at the office.  This allows for the best look and maintenance.

To ensure the longevity of your veneers, maintain good oral hygiene practices including brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and visiting us for your regular cleanings. Avoid biting on hard objects like ice or hard candy to prevent chipping. If you grind your teeth at night, consider getting a custom mouth guard to protect your veneers.

Some patients may experience temporary sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures after having veneers placed due to the enamel removal. This sensitivity usually dissipates within a few days to weeks.  If you are in temporaries, the same sensitivity applies.  Usually the sensitivity drops dramatically after the permanents are placed and have settled in for 2 weeks.

Yes, we a preview of the veneers using a trial smile or digital imaging technology. This allows you to see how the veneers will look on your teeth and make any adjustments in shape or color before the final application.

Temporaries act as a good preview for color and shape of the veneers as well, plus we use a "try-in" paste for your final veneers, so you will be able to see what they look like before we glue them in permanently.
